Ask Laurin is an AI. It is not Laurin, and it is not a person. It is not a therapist, doctor, lawyer, or financial advisor. It can't call for help, check on you, or respond to an emergency.

Our safety protocol

Ask Laurin follows these rules in every mode:

• Suicide and self-harm. If a message suggests suicide or self-harm, Ask Laurin stops coaching. It sends a set message that points to 988, the Crisis Text Line, and 911. Two separate checks look for this: an automatic filter that reads each message before the AI does, and rules the AI must follow.
• Abuse. If a message describes abuse or violence by a partner, Ask Laurin points to the National Domestic Violence Hotline instead of giving advice.
• Sexual assault. If a message describes sexual assault, Ask Laurin points to RAINN. It does not ask for details.
• Medical, legal, and money questions. Ask Laurin declines and suggests a licensed professional.
• Minors. If someone says they are under 18, Ask Laurin tells them it is for adults only.
• No sexually explicit content in any mode.
• AI label. Every chat screen shows that Ask Laurin is an AI.
• Testing. We test these rules with a set of automated test conversations before we release changes.
• Counting. We count how often Ask Laurin shows crisis resources. We use this count for reports that California law requires. The reports do not include any information about who you are.

These rules lower risk, but they can't catch everything. If you need help, please use the resources above, even if Ask Laurin doesn't suggest them.

Medical, legal, and money questions

For anything about your health, medicine, a diagnosis, custody, divorce, restraining orders, or money decisions, talk to a licensed professional.

Under 18

Ask Laurin is for adults 18 and older. AI chatbots like Ask Laurin may not be suitable for some minors. If you are under 18 and need help, the resources above are free and confidential.
